Dutchess of Autumn has arrived
Yesterday was the Autumn Equinox and The Very bright Harvest moon. While it was not very cool there was a nice breeze during the day. We started the morning out with baked oatmeal that I made the night before. I decided to make two batches since the boys eat them up. I decided to make one into a pie and the other in cupcakes.Breakfast was followed by our morning circle time and the boys were thrilled we added "My Paddle" after we did "Sally Go Round the Sun". Before nap we read The Dutchess of Autumn. Kai remembered practically the entire story from telling it last year. After a nice warm fall time theme dinner ( black beans and squash) we went for a full moon walk and Kai decided to do some "groucho marx" walking with me.
I just love the Dutchess Kai made today the swirls in her name, the blue spirals for wind and the leaves falling.
Today we decided to skip circle and head to the park. However, we had to head to the feed store first to pick up the loose hay they give us for free and thankfully the Stall Dry I ordered came in . We had a really nice picnic lunch under a bottle brush tree near the edge of the water while the Muscovy mom, her babies and 3 Pekins joined us.

The Golden Amulet
This week I am 39 weeks pregnant and our homeschool week is going wonderful. Even though we live in Sunny Hot Florida we can always sense the change that arrives with Autumn. It is not so much of the weather itself but more of the feelings within and changes within us at this wonderful time. While we will not be visiting the mountains this autumn we will be enjoying all the new adventures that will arrive for us here. It would be wonderful for our baby to be our 3rd Libra.
This is our second week adding "Strange Family" into our circle time. It is a great way to learn by movement counting by 2s, 3s, 4s etc. We also started The Golden Amulet. The boys always enjoy waking to a new chalkboard drawing with the "hidden letter" along with the verse.
I didn't realize until after I was finished how crooked my lines had become. I will just blame it on the belly :)
The past few weeks I have allowed Kai to do more free drawing from the story in his Good Book however this week I started Adult led. I noticed some frustration from this as he wants his to look exactly like mine which really isn't the idea. This way of drawing is quite new and much different then outlining first. Of course, he does a wonderful job and while the picture doesn't show it he made his tree have a glow to it. While he was drawing I could tell he was really taking in the story by how he was explaining what he was coloring.
This evening we went for a beautiful evening walk on the beach. They took so much in from the moon to the treasures abound they found. As we were preparing to leave we met an artist and she shared with the boys about the different types of seabeans but also shared with them a wonderful poem she wrote about mermaids and their treasures.
Well time for me to prepare some baked oatmeal for the morning.

Here we are.
Wow!
It has been MUCH to long since I have updated our blog. So many things I would love to back track to . The biggest is that I am about to give birth. Arly and I made sure to start preparing for Kai's first grade home schooling weeks ago. I finally feel organized in that area and so far it has been going well. One of the most important things I have been focusing on especially with baby on the way is our Rhythm. Our rhythm has always been pretty strong however there have been weeks well ok months that it started to slide and the boys felt it. I could probably write a novel however will just try to keep this where we are at now.
We are just starting Block #1 Week 3 which is language arts. The days have been pretty consistant and full of a nice rhythm. I decided for now to stick with the 5 day week schedule vs the 3 however I may change it up later on. When organizing this year I started over thinking what order I wanted to do things etc. However, once I relaxed it bit everything started flowing well. Another good thing is it seems recently I have been constantly reminded the benefits of Home schooling especially Enki. Many children these days are so rushed and undernourished when it comes to learning however Arly and I get to see first hand how deeply the boys sink in and truly learn.
I tell 2 stories a week and allow Kai to sleep on it then recall artistically the next day.
I have kept our circles pretty much the same throughout the month with the exception of 1 or 2 changes each week.
CIRCLE:
Blood and Breath:
Sally Round the Sun- 3 times ( walking in a circle, hopping on each foot, skipping)
Midline:
Woodcutters- 2 times
My Little Pony- 3 times (on the 3rd time Kai does the movement without singing the song out loud however still maintains the rhythm)
Base Sense:
Lazy Lion- 2 times
Spinning Wheel- 1-2times (depending on how hot it is out the boys will do this while prone on their swings outside as I twist the swing chains. Lots of sensory input.
ACADEMIC:

Bean Bag Johnny ( this has turned into learning how to juggle)
Right before lunch I have been telling them story which this week is Rhodopis and Laughed Lilies. Followed by nap and either led drawings or free drawing of the story.
For handwriting we have been using more of Handwriting without Tears instead of the Blackmasters copies.
